Smith Says Superspeedway Odds Should Be In His Favor   

DENVER, Colo. (June 30, 2010) -- Regan Smith is calling the last two races for his Furniture Row Racing team a basic detour and feels the odds are in his favor for a rebound in Saturday night's Coke Zero 400 Sprint Cup event at Daytona International Speedway.

Smith is banking on a change of superspeedway luck at Daytona, where he finished 12th in last year's summer race.

If Smith and the No. 78 Furniture Row team are going to avenge the last two Cup finishes of 38th (Sonoma) and 33rd (New Hampshire), their superspeedway luck is definitely going to have to change. Since last year's July race at Daytona, Smith ran into a roadblock of misfortunes at the ensuing three superspeedway events.

An engine failure in last fall's race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway dropped Smith to a 39th-place finish, the same result he was credited with in February's Daytona 500 after being collected in a Lap 8 of 200 accident. And another engine failure at Talladega in April left him with a 38h-place finish.

When reminded about his last three superspeedway results of 39th, 39th and 38th, Smith blurted a succint, "Ouch!" and he wasn't referring to the left wrist he broke in Sonoma two weeks ago.

"Those were three very disappointing and frustrating results because superspeedway racing is a Furniture Row Racing strength," noted Smith. "But what happened at the last three superspeedway races was beyond our control. Barring any mechanical problems or accidents I feel that we have the potential to post a top-10 or better finish Saturday night. When the engine let go in Talladega in April, we were consistently running in the top five."

Prior to the last two races Smith and the Denver, Colo.-based team were making progress with three top-20 and five top-25 finishes.  

"We had some good runs before Sonoma and felt that our performances were much better than the end result," offered Smith. "We just need to get back on track this weekend and gain some new momentum. We have the horsepower with the Hendrick engine and should be running with the lead pack."
