Smith Nets Top-10 Finish at Texas

Regan Smith’s race in the No. 7 Chevrolet lacked consistency, but the team still had a noteworthy event. Once Smith found a spot among the top 10, he remained there, only briefly falling outside the top 10. Crew chief Greg Ives tried several adjustments during the team’s pit stops to help alleviate a handling condition that fluctuated between loose and tight. Ives’ persistence and Smith’s talents prevailed and helped thrust the team as high as third. Smith then settled into a spot among the top-seven for the conclusion of the race. With his seventh-place finish, Smith gained 26 markers on point’s leader Sam Hornish Jr. It also adds to the team’s season tally, giving them one top-five and four top-10s in six races.

Regan Smith, driver No. 7 team
“I’ll be the first to admit that we had high expectations for this one. It’s tough say we’re not happy with a seventh-place finish, but our TaxSlayer team wanted a bit more tonight. We’ll continue working hard to get to where we need to be. It was still a great points’ night for us. I’ve got to give a big thanks to Greg (Ives) and all the guys on this team for sticking with it through the race, especially the pit crew. They had some stellar stops.”
