Smith Staying Consistent with Charlotte Top 10

Regan Smith raced among the top six cars for much of the event. Smith and crew chief Greg Ives once again proved their mettle with a 10th-place finish despite struggling throughout practice on Thursday.

From the green flag, Smith charged from his 10th-place starting position to the top five by the first caution at lap 38. A quick pit stop by the No. 7 crew catapulted Smith to a race-high third-place position for the lap 44 restart. Smith maintained a stronghold amongst the top six until Ives called the No. 7 car to pit road for a two-tire pit stop at lap 168. With eight others, choosing not to pit under the caution, Smith restarted 10th at lap 172. He was able to quickly jump to fifth but slipped several positions late to finish 10th.

He now leads Sam Hornish Jr. by 29 points in the NASCAR Nationwide Series standings.

“Today was a decent day for our team. I've got to give credit to Greg and the whole team. They made a lot of changes on the car during practice and it really helped. In the race, we were able to focus on smaller adjustments and that's what you want to be doing. We ran in the top five for most of the day but I struggled on restarts for some reason. There at the end, we were stuck in the thick of it and I was focused on bringing it home in one piece.”
