Smith’s Patience Garners Top 10 At Dover

Regan Smith’s Dover race was one of patience. With a Chevy that was characterized by both a loose and tight condition, Smith and the team needed several pit stops to try and remedy the car’s handling. Following a restart on lap 84, Smith drove to seventh and was on the cusp of cracking the top-five, before settling in the eighth position under a green-flag run. Still the No. 7 never dropped outside of the top 10 for the race’s entirety and Smith went on to take the checkered flag in ninth, notching his ninth-consecutive top-10 finish of the season. He still holds the Nationwide Series points lead by 27 markers over Sam Hornish Jr.

Regan Smith, driver No. 7 team
“I don’t think it’s a secret our goals were a little higher than where we ended up today. It was still a great effort by Greg and all the TaxSlayer guys, but we just missed on it a bit today. We unloaded really well off the truck and were comfortable with the car in practice. For some reason, that didn’t translate over to the race. We were tight at some points, then loose and never could get the car driving the way we needed it. It’s a little disappointing. We’ll just get back to work this week and turn our attention toward Iowa.”
