Smith Drawn To Daytona And Restrictor Plate Racing

Hellmann’s Centennial Chevrolet Camaro

“I feel like the restrictor plate races have been a strong spot for us this year. Daytona certainly is a place where things can be more out of your control than other tracks. You just have to be as smart as you can, and put yourself in the best situation and the best spot on the racetrack. If you do that, you’ll be there on the last lap and have a shot to battle for the win. Our Hellmann’s team prides itself on being able to run fast and win at any track on the circuit. Certainly Daytona is no different. We’ll look to avoid the accidents, but also look to go there and use it as an opportunity to rebuild this points lead.”

Regan Smith was in contention for wins at both restrictor-plate races this season, scoring the team’s first 2013 victory at Talladega Superspeedway and first on a restrictor-plate track. The organization entered three cars at Daytona in the spring and two in the Talladega event. The teams totaled one win, three top-fives and three top-10 finishes, leading a total of 52 laps.

Smith has led 30 laps in restrictor-plate events in 2013, ranking him as the lap leader among Nationwide Series regulars in that category. Among all drivers this season, he trails only Joey Logano in restrictor-plate laps led.

Smith and the Hellmann’s Centennial team will race chassis 796. This is the same chassis Smith drove to victory at Talladega Superspeedway in May.

Fans are invited to meet JR Motorsports driver Regan Smith for autographs on Thursday, July 4, from 11 a.m.-Noon at the Walmart on 1101 Belville Road in Daytona Beach, Fla.
