Homecoming For Smith
Taxslayer.com Chevrolet Camaro
Although he spent most of his childhood in North Carolina, Smith still calls Cato, N.Y. his hometown. Cato is approximately 80 miles northeast of Watkins Glen International.
“I always look forward to heading up to Watkins Glen. Cato (N.Y.) is my hometown and it’s about an hour
from the track, so it’s exciting for me to race in New York. “Our TaxSlayer team ran really well at Road America. We just didn’t have the finish we wanted. I know we can take what we learned there and use it at Watkins Glen. It will be another wild race for the Nationwide Series. Everyone saw how crazy things got at Road America. I don’t think you’ll see the same type of aggressive driving because the Glen is much faster, but you can bet some tempers will flare.”
NEW YORK GOVERNOR RIDING SHOTGUN WITH SMITH
On Friday morning, Smith will give New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo a trip around Watkins Glen International in the track’s pace car. Cuomo will be on-site to tour the facility and experience the 2.45-mile track firsthand riding alongside Smith.
SMITH’S MEDIA AVAILABILITY
Smith will be available to media members on Friday, Aug. 9 at 11:30 a.m. in the Watkins Glen International media center.
SMITH AT THE GLEN
Smith holds one top-10 finish at Watkins Glen International in the Sprint Cup Series, earned last year with a ninth-place finish. The effort was also his career-best at a road course.
