Smith Earns Top-Five Finish at The Glen

Regan Smith drove to a fourth-place finish in Saturday’s Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International, leading the JR Motorsports campaign and earning his career-best finish on a road course. Smith never lost sight of the leaders throughout the race, clinging to a top-five position with the Chevrolet for most of the event. Following the lap-47 restart, Smith drove as high as first and led a lap, but was forced to give up the position to make a scheduled green-flag pit stop. After the field cycled through, Smith found fifth place and dutifully picked up another position in the closing laps to score his fifth top-five finish of 2013.

Regan Smith, driver No. 7 team

“I think we’re happy to come out of here with a top-five and to gain some points on the leader. Of course we always want to finish better, but all things considered, it was a solid day. We’ve made a ton of progress on our road course program from Road America and I’m hoping we can do the same next week. I know I have a great teammate in Ron Fellows next week, so we’re already looking toward Mid-Ohio.”
