Smith Posts Strong Top-3 Finish At Richmond

Regan Smith raced the Hellmann’s Centennial Chevrolet to a third-place finish in Friday night’s Virginia 529 College Savings 250 at Richmond International Raceway. From the drop of the green flag, Smith began a gradual advance that found him in sixth by the lap 68 caution. Following a quick pit stop by the 7 team, which netted Smith three positions on pit road, he lined up third for the ensuing restart. Smith kept a strong grip among the top-five for the remainder of the event, finding speed on extensive green-flag runs. It landed the No. 7 back in third for the final restart on lap 244. Smith showcased his skill and smoothly moved into second with five laps to go. He held the runner-up spot until a tight condition forced him to give way to the 2 car on the white-flag lap and settle for third. It marked Smith’s sixth top-five of the season and career-best effort at Richmond.

Regan Smith, driver No. 7 Hellmann’s Centennial team
“It was good night for our Hellmann’s team. The car was solid all night long. We weren’t quite as good as the 2 car. He was the class of the field for the entire night. We tried to hold him off at the end, but the car just got really tight. The longer the run tonight, the better we were, so that final short run hurt us. I’ve struggled here in the past, but both races here this year JR Motorsports has given me cars that are really good. I’m proud of my guys with the Hellmann’s Chevy and I’ve got to thank them for their hard work this weekend.”
