Smith Post Top-15 Finishes at Dover

Regan Smith utilized pit strategy to move his way from 13th to inside the top five for much of the event. Smith pitted for two tires while other leaders opted not to pit under the first of two cautions at lap 25 then stayed out under the next caution at lap 35 to move to second. Although the strategy provided Smith and his No. 7 Drive Sober Chevrolet the desired track position inside the top five, it proved to be the team’s undoing. As the laps wound down, the team’s hopes for a third caution were unrewarded forcing Smith to pit at lap 182 for two tires and enough fuel to finish the race. The trip to pit road dropped the No. 7 team from fourth to a 15th-place finish. Smith drops one position in the NASCAR Nationwide Series standings to fourth trailing overall leader Sam Hornish Jr. by 43 points.

Regan Smith, driver No. 7 Drive Sober team
“Really disappointing to end our race the way we did. Our qualifying effort got us behind on track position from the start so we made the call to pit under the first caution and stay out on the second to get our car in clean air. There was just no way to know the race would go green to end like that and it really bit us.”
