Smith Lands Top-10 at Texas

Regan Smith finished sixth to spearhead the JR Motorsports campaign in Saturday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway. The end result was Smith’s 18th top-10 finish this season but it didn’t come easy. After cementing a top-10 position through the race’s halfway point with the Lionel Racing Golden Ticket Chevy, Smith slipped to 11th with a tight condition. The team then faded two more positions to 13th prior to the lap-170 caution. When a pair of competitors elected to pit, Smith gained two positions and lined up in 11th for the restart. Once back to green-flag conditions, Smith wheeled his way to ninth, and following the race’s final restart, ascended even further to seventh. Over the final laps, Smith outdueled one final competitor to find sixth place and the checkered flag.

Regan Smith, driver No. 7 Lionel Racing Golden Ticket team
“We’re pleased with sixth, but certainly not satisfied. Greg and this entire Golden Ticket team worked their tails off in practice to get this car better and they did a phenomenal job. Our car was mostly loose in the beginning of the race and then as the track tightened up so did we. I really would have liked a top-five since that’s where we ran for a lot of the day. We just needed a few more laps there at the end.”
