Final Push With Two To Go Chevrolet Camaro

“With two to go, we’re going to try and win these final races. If the 12 and 3 start wrecking each other, who knows, maybe we can sneak back in to the hunt. It still is disappointing considering in the past six weeks we have had opportunities to be back in it. You look back at Road America, when we had that 58-point lead and it seemed like it snowballed from there and we didn’t catch it quickly enough. When we did finally catch it, we started pushing too hard to do too many drastic things to get back all the points at once. I know that our team has learned from it, and I think that’s a big part of understanding how to race for a championship. I think this year’s experience will really pay off next year.”

Regan Smith, driver of the No. 7 Chevrolet, has led a total of 219 laps on the season. It’s not only a career high for Smith, but the third-highest number of laps led in a single season for JR Motorsports, behind only Brad Keselowski’s 2008 and 2009 campaigns. Keselowski and the JRM No. 88 team led 295 and 381 laps in those back-to-back seasons, respectively.

JRM team cars have earned a pair of top-10 finishes in the six races at one-mile tracks (Phoenix International Raceway and Dover International Speedway) this season. Smith has contributed to the tally. The team’s average finish in those six events is 11.0.

Of the 16 statistical categories in NASCAR loop data, Smith holds a spot among the top-five in 11 categories, including average running position (8.7), driver rating (101.1), fastest early in run, fastest late in run, fastest on restarts, fastest speed in traffic, green-flag speed, laps in the top-15 (89.4 percent), percentage on lead lap (94.1 percent), speed by quarter and quality passes 1,145).

Fans can now vote for Regan Smith in this year’s Nationwide Series Most Popular Driver Program. Voting is open at and continues through the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It is limited to one vote per 24 hours.
