Smith Looks to Repeat Past Success at Michigan

No. 7 Chevrolet

Smith returns to Michigan International Speedway as the defending winner of the track’s 250-mile event. In last year’s race, Smith and then crew chief Greg Ives leveraged pit strategy to lead the final 14 laps en route to Smith’s second win of the season and third overall in NNS competition.

“It was good to have a weekend to take a breath before we hit this long summer stretch. There is a lot of racing coming up and our team is committed to improving on our performance. We’ve run well, but we can do better and the competition is fierce this year. Every race is going to matter before it’s all said and done. So it’s important we get all we can every weekend.”

“I’m excited for Michigan. Heading back there as the defending race winner gives you a lot of confidence. It’s a wide track with a lot options as far as what line you want to run. Typically, the race will go green so pit strategy will definitely come into play, making it anybody’s race to win.”

Now 12 races into the Nationwide Series’ 33-race schedule, Regan Smith has notched a top-10 finish in every race this season. His 12 consecutive top-10 finishes are the most among all NNS competitors this season.

Smith has accumulated stellar statistics driving for JR Motorsports at the two-mile tracks of California and Michigan. He holds one win and three top-10 finishes, leading 14 laps in three starts at those facilities. His average finish in those starts is 4.6.

Smith will be available to the NASCAR media on Friday, June 13, at 9:45a.m. EST in the Michigan International Speedway media center.

Smith heads into Michigan International Speedway with a four-point cushion over Elliott Sadler and a 22-point lead over his JRM teammate Chase Elliott in the championship points standings. JRM remains the only organization to lead the points standings in 2014 with both Elliott and Smith.
