Smith Battles For Top-10 In Michigan

Regan Smith and the No. 7 team proved resilient in Saturday’s Ollie’s Bargain Outlet 250 at Michigan International Speedway, battling through adverse handling to salvage a seventh-place finish. The effort further extends Smith’s lead of the Nationwide Series Championship points by 14 points over Elliott Sadler and marks his 13th consecutive top-10 finish.

The team combated handling issues through the entire weekend, but still managed an eighth-place start for the race. Smith faded outside the top-10 during the initial stages and then rallied to make a charge back to ninth by lap 50.
With varying pit strategies being played throughout the field, Smith found himself with enough fuel to stay out under caution on lap 68, a move which propelled the team to sixth. Smith held onto the position for a time, before drifting to 10th. He made several bold moves in the closing laps to find the 7th spot prior to the checkered flag.

“I’ve got to give everyone on this team a lot of credit. I’ll be honest, we didn’t have a great car this weekend. But everyone kept their chins up and kept working hard and we managed to come out with a top-10. There is still a lot of room for improvement but resiliency is important in this sport and we showed that today. We’ll take it and look to improve at Road America.”
