Smith Returns to Home State

Quotes | Regan Smith

“I always look forward to heading back home and doing some road racing. I haven’t lived in New York since I was kid but it’s still a trip I get excited about. The 7 team is bringing a lot of confidence into this weekend with the Clean Coal Chevy. We had a strong run at The Glen last year and we were solid at Road America earlier this summer; things just didn’t pan out for us.

“You never know how these races are going to go. A fast car doesn’t always translate into a good finish and we all know how crazy road racing gets, especially in the closing laps. But we’ll do our best to keep ourselves up front and all four wheels on the track.”

Notes | No. 7 Team

SMITH RETURNS TO HOME STATE: Although he spent most of his childhood in North Carolina, Smith still calls Cato, N.Y. his hometown. Cato is approximately 80 miles northeast of Watkins Glen International. Additionally, Smith’s crew chief Ryan Pemberton is a native of Albany, N.Y.

WATKINS GLEN MARKS CAREER BEST: Smith’s fourth-place finish for JRM at Watkins Glen in 2013 stands as his career-best finish at a road course.

SECOND RACE FOR CLEAN COAL: Clean Coal returns to the No. 7 car as primary sponsor for its second race this season. 2014 marks the third-consecutive year of JRM’s partnership with the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE). ACCCE supports energy policies that balance coal’s role in supplying the United States with affordable and reliable electricity. Smith will also carry the Clean Coal colors in races at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (Aug. 16) and Chicagoland Speedway (Sept. 13). Learn more by visiting www.americaspower.org.
