Smith Closing Out Season To Remember

No. 7 Chevrolet

Looking to close the season at Homestead-Miami this weekend, Smith is on pace to secure career bests in the following categories: top-10 finishes (25), average start (10.5), average finish (9.0) and driver points position (2nd). He leads all NNS regulars in laps completed, totaling 5,843 of 5,857 laps (99.8 percent) on the season.

“Homestead is definitely on my list of favorite tracks. It’s tough to pinpoint exactly why, but some tracks just give you that feeling. The groove really widens out as the race goes, and gives you a lot of options. Plus, it helps that we’ve won there before and that experience goes a long way.”

“We were all happy for Chase (Elliott) to clinch the championship last week. If the 7 team didn’t win it, I’m glad our teammate in the 9 could. He did a great job all year. Personally, I would love nothing more than a JRM one-two finish in the points battle, so we still have some work to do this weekend to make that a reality.”

Only his JRM teammate Chase Elliott holds more top-10 efforts than Smith in 2014 competition. Elliott has earned 26 to Smith’s 25. Additionally, Smith is one of only four NNS regulars with seven or more top-five finishes on the season. He also notched a series-leading 13 consecutive top-10s to open the 2014 season (Daytona through Michigan).

In his first race for JR Motorsports in 2012, Smith drove to victory in the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway with the team’s No. 5 entry. At the time, the effort marked his first win in 103 Nationwide Series starts. Since then, Smith has amassed three additional victories (Talladega, Michigan and Daytona), 15 top-five and 44 top-10 finishes driving under the JRM banner.

Smith will drive chassis No. 893 this weekend at Homestead. Smith piloted this chassis to top-10 finishes in three of its four starts (Atlanta, Chicago II and Indianapolis).

JR Motorsports fans can now vote for Regan Smith or Chase Elliott in this year’s Nationwide Series Most Popular Driver Program. Voting is open here and continues through the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It is limited to one vote per 24 hours. JRM has four MPD titles, with Regan Smith taking the honors in 2013, Danica Patrick in 2012 and Brad Keselowski winning in 2008-09.
