Iowa Brings Opportunity For Smith

No. 7 NAPA Synthetic Motor Oil Chevrolet

With a ninth-place finish at Talladega on May 2, Smith held firm in fifth place in the NXS point standings. He is six points out of third place heading into Iowa, trailing JRM teammate Chase Elliott and rookie Darrell Wallace Jr. He’s 43 points out of the lead with 23 races remaining in the NXS schedule.

“Iowa has been a good track for our team. Short track racing can be challenging and frustrating at times, but if things go right it’s a lot of fun. It’s a fantastic track, extremely racy. It’s called a short track but with the speeds we carry there, it’s almost like a speedway. Clean air is very important, just like a speedway, so you need to get as much of that as you can. We didn’t get the finish I thought we deserved at Talladega, but we’re fast everywhere, so we’re looking for a good weekend in Iowa.”

Smith runs well at Iowa Speedway, as evidenced by an average start of 3.5 and average finish of 6.8 in four races on the .875-mile oval. Smith started fourth and finished third in this race last year, and his average start is his best at any track.

This weekend at Iowa, Smith will have NAPA Synthetic Motor Oil colors on his No. 7 JRM Chevrolet. A specially-blended version of Valvoline Racing Oil, NAPA Synthetic Motor Oil is available at your local NAPA AUTO PARTS store. Visit to find a store near you.

In the 10 short-track races since the May 2014 event at Iowa, Smith has three top-five and nine top-10 finishes. Last time out on a short track this season, at Richmond, he was a fast-closing third.

Smith will take part in the annual JRM Fan Day at the Mooresville shop on Friday, May 22, signing autographs from 2-3 p.m. with other drivers in the JRM family. It’s the traditional off-day during the Charlotte race week, and there’s plenty to do for everyone. Click here or visit for more information.
