Smith Hits Summer Surge Heading Into Michigan

No. 7 Suave Men Chevrolet

While the big news from Dover was the big check from series sponsor XFINITY, Smith’s second straight top-five and fifth of the season saw him leap over Darrell Wallace Jr. into fourth place in the series points. He’s a slim 10 points behind JRM teammate Chase Elliott for third place, and just 47 points out of the lead.

“The way we’re running, I think we are certainly capable of winning all four XFINITY Dash 4 Cash races. [Crew chief] Jason Burdett, my engineer Allen Hart, all those guys have really stepped up this year. We have fast race cars every time out, and when we don’t, we do a good job of adjusting on them and making them better. Our pit crew has been phenomenal the last few weeks. We’ve been fast everywhere, we’ve had the speed to win on three or four occasions if we had been out front at the right time. We just keep on chipping away at it. We really have a lot of momentum as a group, and we’re going to win. It’s just a matter of winning one; once we get one, I feel like we’re going to click off a lot of them.”

MIS VICTORY DANCE
Smith has won at Michigan for JR Motorsports, winning there in 2014 for a second triumph that year. Smith took the lead with 14 laps remaining, getting past Parker Kligerman to win by .33 seconds. It marked Smith’s third victory for JRM.

CHANCE AT ANOTHER BIG CHECK
By claiming the first XFINITY Dash 4 Cash bonus of $100,000 at Dover, Smith has the opportunity to double his money July 25 at Indianapolis. Also, by winning the first Dash 4 Cash race, he’s the only driver eligible for the $1 million for winning all four Dash 4 Cash events.

SUAVE MEDIA AVAILABILITY
Smith will join JR Motorsports team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr., barber-to-the-NASCAR stars Steve Ellsworth and representatives from Suave Men at 10 a.m. ET on Friday, June 12, at the “Suave Men Heritage and Hair: A Discussion with the Icons of Speed and Style” event. The event, which will be set in the 1937-era Speed and Style Salon at MIS, will feature several members of the JR Motorsports team as well, and Ellsworth will wash and style their hair using Suave Men’s Heritage products. A Q&A session will follow.
