Smith Ready to Strike At Daytona

No. 7 Fire Alarm Systems Chevrolet

Regan Smith was running third, having led 15 laps, in February at Daytona when he was taken out of the opening race in a multi-car crash. The 35th-place finish for Smith ended a streak of consecutive top-two finishes at Daytona, including a victory in the 2014 opener.

“The way we’re running, I think we are certainly capable of winning. Jason Burdett, my engineer Allen Hart, all those guys have really stepped up this year. We’ve been fast everywhere. We’ve had the speed to win on three or four occasions if we had been out front at the right time. One of those was Daytona to start the year. We’re going to win. It’s just a matter of time, and Daytona would be a good place to start.”

Smith will pay homage to America with a special Stars and Stripes scheme on his Fire Alarm Systems Chevrolet at Daytona.

A partner of JR Motorsports since 2013, Fire Alarm is based in Denver, Colo., and serves customers as a single provider for all their fire alarm, electrical, security and fire suppression needs.

In eight starts for JR Motorsports at Daytona and Talladega, Smith has won twice, finished second once and third once. He’s also posted two more top-10s. At Daytona, he averages a 12th-place finish, which includes the 35th-place result in February. Without that finish taken into account, his average drops to a stellar 6.25. He’s also led laps in each of his five Daytona starts for JR Motorsports, amassing 121 laps led in those races. Of those, he’s led 97 laps in the last three starts on the 2.5-mile tri-oval, which included a victory and a second-place finish.

Heading into the 15th of 33 races, Smith is in solid position in the championship standings. Sitting fourth in the points, 62 out of the lead, Smith is just 19 points behind JRM teammate Chase Elliott for third.

Smith will appear at the Winn-Dixie store in Ormond Beach (353 West Granada Blvd.) on Friday at 11 a.m., on behalf of partner Hellmann’s. He will chat on-site with the Performance Racing Network team led by Doug Rice and sign autographs during the visit.
